About the OIPS

The Office of International Programs and Services, a unit of the Center for Academic Programs and Student Services (CAPSS) is Gallaudet University's one-stop office for all things international.

It is comprised of 3 sub-units, namely the Center for Global Education, the English Language Institute, and International Services. These sub-units are grouped into two, Programs (ELI and CGE) and Services (IS).

The Center for Global Education offers a broad range of services and activities for students, faculty and professionals at Gallaudet University seeking to maximize or enhance their learning and expertise through the provision of qualitative opportunities to apply their knowledge internationally. Additionally, there are various opportunities for visiting students, scholars, researchers and professionals who are interested in coming to Gallaudet University for an array of short- and long- term programs.

The English Language Institute provides comprehensive immersion programs in English as a Second Language to international as well as a few American students. American Sign Language (ASL) and cultural studies courses are also offered, enabling students to gain proficiency in English and ASL in order to qualify for, and thrive after, admission to Gallaudet or other U.S. universities.

The International Services office has the responsibility of maintaining the University's compliance with SEVIS. IS works in cooperation with other departments and units of the University to ensure that all current international students and scholars are in compliance with current Immigration regulations. IS works closely with students to update them on current regulations, take them through Immigration status change or maintenance procedures, and performs other advisory functions relevant to the maintenance or reinstatement of their immigration status.
