International Students

  • International Students
  • International students are welcome to apply for courses on this website. If you are planning to attend Gallaudet University during the Fall 2008 semester, please contact cpso@gallaudet.edu so we can be prepared for your application. In addition to your APPLICATION/COURSE REGISTRATION, PAYMENT INFORMATION and TEMPORARY VEHICLE REGISTRATION forms, international students are also required to complete a VISA INFORMATION form. Due to the time constraints in processing I-20's or DS-2019's, applications from international students with these Visas must be received in our office by June 30, 2008. Applications from students who already have an F1, J1 or permanent residency must be received no later than two weeks prior to the start of class.

Please note that tuition and fees for international students (including Canadians) differs. International students who do not have permanent resident status in the United States (green card) must pay an additional international surcharge of 100% over the amount of tuition for U.S. citizens. Students from developing countries may apply for a reduction in the percent of tuition surcharge. Please contact us if you think you may be entitled to a reduced surcharge.

Payment must be sent in full (check or money order payable to Gallaudet University) before your paperwork can be processed. If you have a green card, you must submit a copy with your application. A B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa or a Visa Waiver does not authorize the international visitor to attend school or audit classes. Once you arrive on campus, you must stop by the Office of International Programs and Services, located in the Hall Memorial Building (HMB) E254, prior to attending class. Only individuals arriving at Gallaudet University with the proper student Visa will be allowed to attend classes.

NOTE: These procedures do not apply to international students taking an online course who live outside the D.C. metro area. If you are interested in taking an online course, please follow the procedures listed under REGISTRATION INFORMATION. The international tuition surcharge will still apply.

Confirmation of your registration will be sent to you upon approval of your application. This is your proof of enrollment. If you do not receive confirmation of your enrollment, contact the College of Professional Studies and Outreach at 202.448.7272 (tty/v), 202.651.5987 (fax), or email cpso@gallaudet.edu. If you are not a current Gallaudet University student or an employee, a temporary ID will be given to you by your instructor on the first day of class. Students taking an online course will not receive an ID.
